Howdy! Forgive me I'm still building this site

I'm Bug!

I do everything from helping people develop a planner that works for them to trudging through a river for samples in Texas summers to writing about my favorite Magic: The Gathering releases. I particularly enjoy work that gives me the opportunity to be creative or get involved in my community.

I have a Master's in Biology in an Entomology lab and I'm passionate about scientific outreach and communication. In addition to creating zines and comics designed to make science accessible to everyone, I've spoken at conferences, on public radio, and at a variety of school events. It's my hope to encourage the rest of the world to fall a little bit more in love with its tiny, many-legged residents.

When I'm not staring at small critters, I spend my time reading, watching Star Trek, and going on assorted adventures (as well as playing plenty of Dungeons & Dragons).

I'd love to work with you. If you have an idea you're excited about, feel free to reach out at bug@bugthebard.com.

Essay: Call Me Bug
This flash fiction piece about a june bug was originally written for a creative writing course I took in undergrad. I always think it's fun to write from outside-of-human perspectives.

Pop Culture News Writing: The Pop Insider
I was a News Writer for Adventure Media and Events, LLC for two years, which mostly included excitedly reiterating whatever companies put out in press releases.

The Pop Insider focused on pop culture franchises. My favorite bits were attending virtual press events for new Dungeons & Dragons publications or Magic: The Gathering sets. Below are some highlights you can click on to read, and you can also see everything I wrote for the publication on my author page.
Toy News Writing: The Toy Insider
I was a News Writer for Adventure Media and Events, LLC for two years, which mostly included excitedly reiterating whatever companies put out in press releases.

The Toy Insider covered new toy releases with the goal of appealing to parents. I got to review toys sent to me (personally, I had the most fun with a Beyblade set and Pokémon Violet). Below are some highlights you can click on to read, and you can also see everything I wrote for the publicatrion on my author page.
Business News Writing: The Toy Book
I was a News Writer for Adventure Media and Events, LLC for two years, which mostly included excitedly reiterating whatever companies put out in press releases.

The Toy Book covered the business side of toys. I enjoyed going through and interpreting reports on market trends from the big companies tracking that kind of thing (such as Circana). Below are some highlights you can click on to read, and you can also see everything I wrote for the publicatrion on my author page.
